Keynote Speakers

Dr. Bernard Vanlauwe Keynote
Dr. Bernard Vanlauwe

Dr. Bernard Vanlauwe is the IITA Director R4D, Central Africa and Natural Resource Management. Dr. Bernard obtained his PhD in 1996 in Applied Biological Sciences. He worked at IITA in Nigeria (1991 – 2000). He joined IITA, Nairobi, Kenya in March 2012 to lead the Central Africa hub and the Natural Resource Management research area. Sinne then, he has led several IITA developmental initiatives among which is African Cassava Agronomy Initiatives (ACAI) that gave birth to AKILIMO Nigerian Association. He also led the Excellence in Agronomy (EiA) programme of IITA. He was the leader of the Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) program of the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility research area of CIAT (TSBF) where he was instrumental tot the development, adaptation, and dissemination of best ISFM options in various agroecological zones in sub-Saharan Africa. He was a Visiting Professor at the Swedish Agricultural University in Uppsala in the Soils and Environment Department.

Mrs. Yemisi Iranloye is the Founder/CEO of Psaltry International Ltd, Ado-Awaye, Oyo State, Nigeria. Mrs. Iranloye obtained her B.Sc. in Food Biochemistry from the Federal University of Technology Minna in 1997 and later completed her postgraduate studies in Biochemistry and Nutrition at the University of Ibadan in 2000. In 2001, she joined Ekha Agro-Processing Ltd in Lagos state, where she gained valuable experience working with cassava and discovered its untapped potential. Following a decade of service with Ekha Agro, she moved to the farm in Ado-Awaye town in Oyo State in 2015 to establish The Psaltry International. Apart from other casava products, Psaltry International is the first in Africa and second in the world to use cassava in the production of sorbitol used in toothpaste industry. Mrs. Iranloye is a very strong, passionate and result driven entrepreneur. She was the first African Women Entrepreneurship Programme President (Nigeria Chapter) and a member of Board of Directors of IITA-Business Incubation Platform (IITA-BIP) amongst other Board appointments. Psaltry International is one of the Development Partners that developed AKILIMO Decision Support Tools.

Former Executive Director · National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS)
Prof. Emmanuel Ikani is a former Executive Director, National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State. Prof. Ikani holds a B.Sc. (Animal Science) from University of Ibadan, M.Sc. (Monogastric nutrition) and a Ph.D. (Livestock Extension) from ABU, Zaria. Prof. E.I. Ikani has expertise in technology and innovation profiling. He specializes in packaging solutions for deployment to end users. His skills extend to the design and implementation of extension programs as well as dissemination of extension messages. He is an expert in sustainable agriculture, community development, and human capital growth. Certified in socioeconomic agriculture, specializing in nutrition and feed production he has led many innovative initiatives leading to impactful results across many farming communities in Nigeria.
